Standing Seam: On-Site Roll forming or Shop Pick-Up?

For professional roofing contractors looking to scale their commercial and high-end residential portfolios, standing seam metal roofing represents a massive revenue opportunity. However, executing these projects successfully requires solving a complex logistical equation: How do you source precision-engineered panels while maintaining fast lead times, minimizing material waste, and eliminating transit damage?

Traditionally, contractors have had two choices: rely on a volatile independent “metal guy” with unpredictable lead times and zero insurance or take on the massive capital expenditure of purchasing their own roll forming machinery.

At Metal Roof Production (MRP), we provide a third, highly efficient corporate alternative. Through our staffed manufacturing facility in Garland, Texas, we offer two distinct production pipelines tailored to your operational constraints: Shop Pick-Up/Delivery and On-Site Roll Forming

Here is an objective look at how to choose the right method to optimize your material yield, protect your margins, and keep your field crews moving.

Option 1: Shop Pick-Up & Factory Delivery

Best for Standard Geometries, High Volumes, and Controlled Timelines

When your project features uniform run lengths and predictable structural framing, utilizing shop fabricated panels from us is incredibly cost effective.

The Technical Advantages:

  • Advanced Machinery Profiles: In our controlled shop environment, we deploy both the New Tech SSH and the advanced New Tech SSQ roll forming systems. While the SSH handles standard residential and light commercial profiles flawlessly, the NuTech SSQ allows us to manufacture commercial 1.5 inch mechanical lock profiles, including flush wall panels.
  • Strict QA/QC Environment: Every panel formed inside our facility undergoes rigorous quality control testing. We run 24 to 26 gauge sheet metal through our computerized systems to ensure zero deviation in panel width, seam height, or leg integrity.

Logistical Flexibility: With our permanent facility located at 529 Shepherd Dr., Garland, TX, your team has total accessibility. You can coordinate factory flatbed delivery directly to your job site, or have your crews utilize our shop pick-up service to sync perfectly with your labor schedule.

Option 2: On-Site Roll Forming

Best for Long Panel Runs, Complex Architecture, and Eliminating Transit Risk

When a project calls for continuous panel runs exceeding 25 feet, or intricate cut sheets that need to be called from the field, Metal Roof Production’s on-site roll forming service completely eliminates the middleman and the transit risk by bringing our advanced manufacturing machinery directly to your job site.  The machine comes to you!

The Technical Advantages:

  • Zero Transit Damage & Infinite Lengths: Because the panel is extruded directly from a master coil on the job site, there is no transport vibration or tie-down pressure. Panels can be run to exact structural lengths, even exceeding 60 feet, without a single horizontal lap or seam.
  • Maximum Material Yield: On-site roll forming allows your crew to measure the actual, as-built roof decking immediately before extrusion. If a field dimension varies by two inches from the original blueprints, our operators adjust the machine tolerances instantly. This reduces scrap metal waste.
  • Turnkey Flexibility (With or Without Installation): We adapt to your business capacity. If you have an expert crew but lack the equipment, we offer roll-and-drop services. If you are a roofing company looking to add standing seam to your portfolio without being an expert, our estimators and field teams can assist, providing full installation services alongside production to make your company look like industry veterans.
